The TIME Magazine Multimedia Almanac allows you to install the application to whatever location you choose on your hard drive(s). Before installing it is recommended that you remove any previous versions of Time Almanac.
"Multimedia" refers specifically to two functions of The TIME Magazine Multimedia Almanac: Picture files (which include photos, graphs, maps and charts) and Video files. Each Multimedia file is labeled with an icon indicating whether the file is an article, video, photograph, chart, map, cover, photo essay, or slide show with sound.
Picture files will be displayed when they are clicked on directly, or when accessed from lists using the Previous Item (Command - Left Arrow) or Next Item (Command - Right Arrow) keys. To close pictures, click on the BACK (Esc) key on the Toolbar.
Video files may be accessed from the Portfolio in list form, or by clicking on graphical buttons with video icons located throughout the almanac. Videos play automatically when accessed, and you can assume control of them at any time.
• Note on video performance
If the videos play with jerky motion or if the sound is not in sync with the video, try this to improve the video performance:
First, make sure you have closed all unneeded windows (i.e. unused results lists). If this does not help then do this:
1) Quit the application
2) Open up your Memory Control Panel, located in your System Folder under Control Panels.
3) Lower the cache size to 64K.
4) If your Macintosh has 8 MB of system memory or less, go to the Memory Control Panel, turn Virtual Memory on, and set it to 16 MB.
5) Restart your computer.
6) If you are using a CD-ROM caching product, refer to your CD-ROM caching guide for specific information on optimum settings while running video.
7) Do not load unnecessary extensions which may utilize system memory needed to perform the multimedia features of this product.
